There was an old Francis Coutts, 86 living with Margaret Coutts, 59 and daughter Margaret Coutts, 35 at Ballachailach in Strathdon in 1841 which shows on the same page as his son George Coutts (COU00022). This could be him, in which case his age or date of birth needs to be reviewed. If this record is the right Francis, then he must have been born in about 1755. This Margaret was much younger than Francis, so perhaps Francis birth date at 1786 was wrongly interpreted, with an assumption that he was born closer to Margaret’s birth date.
