In 1428 William Farndayll of Huton held at Gowthorpe in the East Riding, three bovates of land, part of the Archbishopric of York (Feudal Aids Vol VI).

Gowthorpe is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, 4 miles NW of Pocklington. 1180 acres; population 79 with Youlthorpe. It now forms part of the civil parish of Bishop Wilton.
