Mary Jane Farndale, daughter of William and Jane Farndale, (FAR00243) of Brotton, labourer, was born on 11 March and baptised at Brotton on 16 March 1842 (Brotton PR & IGI). Mary Jane Farndale’s birth was registered at Guisbro District in the first quarter of 1842 (GRO Vol 24 page 370).

Ladgates Farm is a small farm about a mile north of Brotton, closer to Saltburn at Ordnance Survey grid 678214.

1865

Mary Jane Farndale, married Henry Appleby (a joiner aged 23 from Saltburn), on 22 July 1865, at Marske, in the presence of her sister, Sarah Ann Farndale (MR). The Census records show that she married a Mr Appleby, but was later living with her father in Marske.

 

1869

 

Mary had a daughter, Eva Appleby, born in 1869.
