Jane Dod was the daughter of George
and Jane Dod of Highfields (DOD00110) and was born in 1710 and
baptised in Audlem on 10 September 1710 (St
James, Audlem Parish Records).

In 1711 they had a daughter, Jane:
the following year her mother died in childbirth (Baker, J Bellyse (1982), Highfields, Audlem: Sixteenth
Century Home of the Dod and Baker Families,
Audlem District History Society, page 11).
Jane, succeeded her father in
Highfields, born 1711, married at Bridgnorth, 16 January 1736, William Baker, of
Bridgnorth and Chester, and died 17 March 1783, leaving issue (Burke, John and Burke, Sir Bernard (1836)(Eighteenth
Edition, 1972), Bellyse Baker of Highfields in Burke’s Landed Gentry,
Volume 3, pages
35 to 38).
1711
Jane’s sister, Judith was born in
1711, but died the same year.
1712
Jane’s mother died in 1712.
1713
Jane’s father George died in 1713 when
Jane was only three years old. She was brought up by her grandparents.
A year later [Jane’s] father died, leaving
Jane to be brought up by her grandparents. (Baker, J Bellyse (1982), Highfields, Audlem: Sixteenth
Century Home of the Dod and Baker Families,
Audlem District History Society, page 11).
1727
When Jane’s grandfather, George
Dod (DOD00101) died in 1727, as the eldest
surviving daughter, she inherited Highfields. She was still only 17.
1736
She married the architect, William
Baker (BAK00068) on 16 January 1736.
Often [Jane] would stay with her Aunt
Diana Dod, who lived at Bridgnorth and it was here that she met a young
architect, William Baker. She was staying at Bridgnorth with her grandmother in
1736 when the latter died. Jane and William were married the same year
and, as her grandfather had died some years earlier, they returned to
Highfields. (Baker, J Bellyse (1982), Highfields,
Audlem: Sixteenth Century Home of the Dod and Baker Families, Audlem
District History Society, page 11).
