Sir Richard Baker c 1568 to 18 February 1645 An English politician, historian, and religious writer best known as the author of the Chronicle of the Kings of England. Though he was a well-connected landowner who served in Parliament and as High Sheriff of Oxfordshire, he was financially ruined later in life and wrote his most famous historical works while imprisoned for debt Born in Sissinghurst, Kent, he studied at Hart Hall, Oxford and later read law in London before travelling Europe He served as an MP for Arundel in 1593 and for East Grinstead in 1597. He was knighted by King James I in 1603 while living in Highgate He died in poverty inside Fleet Prison on 18 February 1645. He was buried in the aisle of St Bride's Church on Fleet Street, London
