Bessie L Farndale, daughter of Robert and Sarah (nee Samuels) Farndale (FAR00455) was born in Chester on 7 April 1922 (1939 Register). Her birth was registered in Chester District in the second quarter of 1922 (GRO Vol 8A Page 634).

Bessie’s father Robert died in 1933, when Bessie was only 11.

1943

By 1943, she was a munitions worker. She was a witness to a fight between British and American soldiers in City Road, Chester, which led to the death of an American soldier. The trial was described in the Chester Chronicle, 9 October 1943 and the Liverpool Evening Express, 3 November 1943.

1945

The Chester Chronicle, 28 April 1945 reported that Bessie Farndale, who had been formerly living at Lower Bridge Street, Chester, was charged with a minor wartime identify card offence.
