February 1925: A pretty
wedding was solemnised at the Church of Saint Peter the Great on Saturday. The
Rev P R B Brown officiated. The bride was Miss Constance May Burls, and the
bridegroom Mr Albert Henry Coombes. The bride was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss
J Farndale and Miss E Hoad, and was given away by Mr G J Farndale. The best
man was Mr W Hoad. The happy couple received numerous presents.

April 1933: Joan Farndale, pupil of Miss Manners, was
successful in passing the preliminary examination of the Associated Board of
the Royal Schools of Music.
Chichester Observer, 17 April 1935: At the recent “school”
examinations of the Royal Schools of Music held in Chichester, the following
pupils of Miss Sylvia M Barker were successful: Primary, Noel J Carter and
Irene Farndale; Elementary, Joan Farndale; and Grammar of Music, Grade
I, Daphne P Hayward.

Groundwell... and Mr Edward Victor Coombs... were the contracting parties in a
very pretty wedding ceremony at Portfield church on Easter Monday..
She was attended by 5 bridesmaids... who wore ankle length dresses pale mauve
satin, with ruched ribbon to match and white satin shoes.... The three younger
attendants, …and the Misses Joan and Irene Farndale, nieces at the
bridegroom, were attired in the same style with pale pink ankle length
dresses. All carried bouquets of pink tulips... Mr G Farndale, brother-in-law
of the bridegroom, acted as best man...
