Francis Farndale, married Margaret Spark, both of Whitby Parish, at Whitby parish Church on 28 May 1738 (Boyd’s Marriage Index). He would be 27. Boyd’s Marriage Index suggests Francis may sometimes have been known as Fra. Margaret Sparkl was probably baptised on 19 February 1692 at Rudston, down the coast near Bridlington, and her father was Guilielmi.

1747

Thomas Farndale (FAR00161), son of Francis Farndale of Whitby, was baptised at Whitby on 13 September 1747.

Thomas’ first wife, Margaret Farndale might have died at about this time. I have not found a record of the death of a Margaret Farndale at this time. There was  Margaret Spark who was buried at St Mary the Virgin, Whitby on 28 June 1755, so the other possibility is that they divorced and she died soon afterwards. This seems unlikely as divorce was rare and Margaret Spark was listed as a widow. They had also chosen to name one of their children Spark in 1745, so this doesn’t suggest the ingredients for a rift shortly afterwards.
