James Chapman, son of Walter J Chapman (CHA00010) and Annie Mariah
(nee Byron) Chapman, was born on 4 September 1888 and baptised at St Michael’s
Church, Croydon on 7 October 1888.
There is a
suggestion in his war records (pension ledger) that he was born on 11 July
1889.

Harold was
attested into the City of London Royal Army Medical Corps (“RAMC”)
Territoprial Force at Chelsea on 25 September 1914. This was only two months
after the outbreak of war on 28 July 1914.
He served in
the RAMC and was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal. His
Regimental Number was 508294.

Monica Chapman (1917 to 1998), was born on 12 April 1917.
Private Harold
Byron James Chapman RAMC was killed in action in the Western Theatre of War, in Flanders, on 26
November 1917. He was serving with the 2/3 Light Field Ambulance.
