Robert Charles Eric Norman, son of Robert and Margaret Sophie (nee Chapman) Norman (CHA00020) was born on 25 January 1914. He was baptised on 7 March 1914 at St Augustine, Croydon. His father was a bank clerk.

Eric joined the Royal Navy in the Second World War.

Eric married Sybil in about 1942 at Holy Trinity, Brompton.

They had two children, Angela and Nichola.

Eric was listed in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve: Norman RCE, MRCS LRCP, (Dolphin), Sg L, Seniority 9 October 1942.

HMS Dolphin is the submarine base at Gosport, home of the Royal Navy Submarine service.

MRCS is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons. LRCP refers to a Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians.

1944

 

As Surgeon Lieutenant RNVR he was mentioned in despatches.

Croydon Times, 24 June 1944: Another Croydon naval officer has also been mentioned in dispatches for outstanding services when his ship was torpedoed. He is Surgeon Lieutenant Robert Charles Eric Norman MRCS LRCP RNVR.

Eric died aged 60 in the fourth quarter of 1974 at St Germans, Cornwall.
