William Farnell, was born on 21 October 1788 in Coxwold, the son of Elias Farndale and Dorothy Farndell (nee Heseltine, spelt Hessledine here) (FAR00184) of Windgate Hill, Coxwold, Farmer. He was baptised on 26 October 1788.

As we know from census records he was born in Coxwold area, it is likely to be correct that he was the son of Elias Farndale (FAR00184) and perhaps the same person as FAR00212 - William Farnill, born Coxwold son of Elias Farndale (FAR00184) and Dorothy Farndell (nee Heseltine) at Wingate Hill Farm, Coxwold.

William Farndale (FAR00281), son of William and Margaret Farndale of Bishop Wilton was born on 1 Aug 1822 (Bishop Wilton PR).

 

Bishop Wilton is a small village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 4 miles north of Pocklington and 6 miles east of Stamford Bridge. The civil parish is formed by the village of Bishop Wilton and the hamlets of Gowthorpe and Youlthorpe.

Elizabeth Farndale (FAR00294), daughter of William and Margaret Farndale of Bishop Wilton, was baptised at Bishop Wilton on 27 October 1826 (Bishop Wilton PR).

Sarah Farndale (FAR00304), daughter of William and Margaret Farndale of Bishop Wilton, was baptised at Bishop Wilton on 23 June 1829 (Bishop Wilton PR).

 

1832

Robert Farndale (FAR00318), son of William and Margaret Farndale of Bishop Wilton, was baptised at Bishop Wilton on 17 June 1832 (Bishop Wilton PR).

Leonard Farndale (FAR00329), son of William Farndale of Bishop Wilton, was baptised at Bishop Wilton on 2 December 1834 (Bishop Wilton PR).

Elias Farndale (FAR00330), son of William and Margaret Farndale of Bishop Wilton, was baptised at Bishop Wilton on 2 December 1834 (Bishop Wilton PR).

1841

 

1841 Census:

 

William Farndale was living at Bishop Wilton, aged 50. He was an agricultural labourer.

 

He lived with his wife Margaret, who was 45 and his son William, aged 15, also an agricultural labourer; his daughter Elizabeth aged 13, his daughter Sarah aged 11; and his son Robert aged 9.

 

1861

 

1861 Census

 

William Farndale was living as the head of household at Bishop Wilton. He was a widower by then. He was aged 73 and an agricultural labourer.

 

This record shows that he was born at Coxwold (in the Ampleforth area).

 

1871

 

1871 Census

 

William Farndale was still living at Bishop Wilton now aged 83. He was living with William Barnes (aged 57) and Mary Barnes (aged 46). William is shown as a lodger.

 

This record shows him to have been born at Yearsley which is near Coxwold.

 

William Farndale died at Pocklington (south east of York, not far from Bishop Wilton) in third quarter of 1871. He was 82.
