William Farndale, son of William and Margaret (nee Weard) Farndale (FAR00220A) of Bishop Wilton, labourer, was baptised at Bishop Wilton on 1 August 1822 (Bishop Wilton PR).

1846

Ann Farndale (FAR00369) was born in 1846 in Pocklington district (mother’s maiden name Leppington) and the birth was registered in the third quarter of 1846 (GRO Vol 23 page 80). William was a labourer at the time of Ann’s birth.

Ann Farndale’s birth record shows her mother’s maiden name was Leppington. She may have been called Esther (see Thomas Farndale record). But it seems she was Mary Leppington (1822 to 1879). They probably married in about 1846.

 

1849

 

John Farndale (FAR00379A) was born at Bishop Wilton in 1849 in Pocklington district (mother’s maiden name Leppington) and the birth was registered in the second quarter of 1849 (GRO Vol 23 page 80).

Thomas Farndale (FAR00394) was born in Pocklington District at Bishop Wilton in 1852 (mother’s maiden name Leppington) and the birth was registered in the second quarter of 1852 (GRO Vol 9d page 60).

Mark Farndale (FAR00408) was born in the Pocklington District at Bishop Wilton in 1854 (mother’s maiden name Leppington) and the birth was registered in the fourth quarter of 1854 (GRO Vol 9d page 49).

1859

 

The property in Bishop Wilton where William Farndale was staying in 1859, was sold at auction:

 

Yorkshire Gazette, 25 June 1859, also in the York Herald on 11 and 18 June 1859: BISHOP WILTON NEAR POCKLINGTON. TO BE SOLD BY AUCTION, BY MR TIPLING. At the House of Mr. James Jepsen, the Cross Keys Inn, Bishop Wilton, in the county of York, on Friday, the 15th day of July, 1859, at four o’clock in the afternoon, either together or in the following or such other lots as shall be agreed upon at the time of sale, unless previously disposed off by private contract, of which notice will be given, and subject to conditions of sale which will then be read, LOT 1 -  All those four and several messuages or dwelling houses, in the hereditaments and premises thereto belonging, situated on the north side of the town of Bishop Wilton aforesaid; also the excellent garden, immediately behind the said dwelling houses, and containing half an acre, more or less. The above premises are in the occupations of Messrs John Tipling, James Beal, William Farndale, and William Foster... Tadcaster, 7th June, 1859.

 

1861

 

Margaret Farndale (FAR00445A) was born at South Lodge, Aberford in or about 1861 (census).

 

1862

York Herald, 12 September 1863 WETHERBY AGHRICLTURAL SOCIETY. THE ANNUAL SHOW. The above society, one of the oldest in this county, held its twenty fourth annual exhibition of stock and implements yesterday, Friday, in the park of Major Gunter, of the Grange, Wetherby, and whether for convenience, beauty of situation, or capaciousness, there is no site near... The first prize to the shepherd was given to William farndale, and the second to S Kitching, both of Bramham....

 

Yorkshire Gazette, 12 September 1863: Also a prize of 6s, for shepherd, to Wm Farndale … both of Bramham.

George Farndale (FAR00453A) was born on 17 September 1864, the son of William Farndale, a shepherd of Aberford.

Census 1891, from the civil parish of Aberford in the Administrative County of York

 

William Farndale shown as the head, a widower, aged 68, living at 138 Blackfern Lodge. A retired shepherd who was born in Bishop Wilton.

 

He lived at Black Fern Lodge, and the only other person registered is his daughter, Margaret Farndale (FAR00445A), aged 30, born at South Lodge, Aberford.

William Farndale died Tadcaster District aged 76 in the first quarter of 1899 and was buried on 25 March 1876 at Barwick in Elmet (GRO Vol 9c page 525).
