Thomas
Farndale, son of William (a licensed hawker of Low Hutton, Huttons Ambo) and
Bessy (nee Langdale) Farndale (FAR00286), was born on 2 April
1866 at Low Hutton in Huttons Ambo in Malton District and baptised on 8 May
1866 (Huttons Ambo PR). The birth was registered by Bessy Farndale, mother, in Malton
District on 23 April 1866, Bessy made her mark (GRO
Vol 9d page 351).

was shown as a farm servant aged 15. Charles Jackson was the head of the household.
Joseph Farndale aged 32 was shown as a farm servant at the same place.
1883
The Yorkshire Gazette, 27 January 1883 reported: Malton.
Norton Police. Mr Jno Southwell, farmer, of Ganton Wold,
claimed £1 compensation from Thomas Farndale, of Leavening, for leaving his
service without just cause, whereby he had suffered damage to the amount
claimed. Mr Southwell’s agent hired the youth at Malton on the 23rd
of December. He entered service on the 26th, and ran away on the
7th of January. He now alleges that he “could not settle”. The
Bench ordered him to pay the £1 claimed and 4s 6d costs.

Farndale, ages 24 a bachelor, farm labourer of 91, Pierson Street, Stockton-on-Tees, son of William Farndale, a letter
carrier, married Sarah Pugh (1864 to 1940) aged 22, of 91 Pierson Street,
daughter of William Pugh (deceased) at The Register Office Stockton on 5
December 1889 (Marriage Certificate). Both signed.
Witnesses Benjamin Kell and Mary Whitehead (her mark). Ninian Cairnes.
Sarah
Hannah Pugh was the daughter of William Pugh (born 1830) and she was born at
Stockport, Cheshire in 1864, but her family later moved to Thornaby,
Middlesbrough.

They
appear to have been at Wressle (near Selby and not far from Leeds) briefly when
their son Thomas was born in 1890 but back at High Worsall, about 20km west of
Stokesley later that year when he was buried.
Thomas Farndale (FAR00641) was born on 2
September 1890 and baptised on 28 September 1890 at Wressle. Thomas Farndale’s
birth was registered in Howden District in the third quarter of 1890
(GRO Vol 9d page 86).
He died the same year.

Elizabeth Farndale was born in Easingwold District on 18 February 1892 and
baptised at Myton upon Swale on 24 February 1892 (Myton
upon Swale PR and GRO vol 9d page 380).
She died in 1896.

September 1893 (1939 Register) and baptised
at Myton on Swale on 5 November 1893. Robert William Farndale’s birth was
registered in Easingwold District in the fourth quarter of 1893 (GRO Vol 9d page 409).

was
born in Doncaster District on 16 June
1895 and baptised on 30 June 1895 at Wadworth, 5km SW of Doncaster (Wadworth PR and letter). James Farndale’s birth
was registered in Doncaster District in
the third quarter of 1895 (GRO Vol 9c page 777).
Thomas, his father, was a labourer when he was born.

quarter of 1899 (GRO Vol 9d page 625).
