The Story of the Stockton 2 Line

Robert Farndale was born in Brotton and moved to Stockton where he became a Master Grocer. He married Sarah Taylor and they had six children.

Robert Farndale, a grocer of Brotton, married Sarah Taylor of Saltburn at Brotton.

17 March 1843

John Henry Farndale, son of Robert and Sarah Farndale, was born in Brotton. He died aged 20 and was buried on 8 July 1863 at St Thomas, Stockton on Tees.

Robert Edward Farndale, son of Robert and Sarah Farndale, was born in Stockton.

Thomas William Farndale, son of Robert and Sarah Farndale, was born in Stockton.

This is in fact John Farndale of the Kilton 1 Line who lived at Stamp Street at the time. So the two branches of the family must have been operating in the same circles.

Robert Farndale Senior, a Master Grocer aged 51, died pf phthisis at Bishopton Terrace Road, Stockton.

 

29 December 1869

 

Robert Edward Farndale, a plasterer and cement maker, married Elizabeth Margaret Parver at the Wesleyan Chapel, Guisborough.

By 1870

Robert Edward Farndale had gone into business in cement manufacturing and carpentry, but the business was liquidated in 1870.

 

By 1871

Sarah Farndale, widow of Robert, had remarried to Benjamin Burlinson, an engine fitter.

 

Thomas William Farndale was a brass polisher at the brass foundry.

 

Robert Edward Farndale was a ship broker.

 

1871

Emily Gertrude Farndale, daughter of Robert Edward and Elizabeth Farndale, was born in Stockton. Emily was a music teacher who lived with her grandmother and the Burlinson family.

 

1873

Annie Paver Farndale, daughter of Robert Edward and Elizabeth Farndale, was born in Stockton. Annie married Alexander Bruce Brown, an engineer, on 29 April 1902. Annie died in 1963.

Edith Elizabeth Farndale, daughter of Thomas William and Elizabeth farndale, was born in Stockton. Edith was a domestic help. She died in 1961.

William James Farndale, son of Thomas William and Elizabeth farndale, was born in Stockton.

Thomas Edward Farndale, son of Thomas William and Elizabeth farndale, was born in Stockton. Thomas was an engineer draughtsman, iron and steel works. He died in 1940.

Thomas William Farndale was buried at Oxbridge Lane Cemetery, Stockton on Tees. He was aged 51.

William James Farndale was a solicitor’s clerk.

 

Bill Farndale was a constructional draughtsman and serving with the Air Raid Patrol Service. He served with the Local Defence Volunteers from 29 April 1941 to 20 June 1947.

 

1943

 

Bill Farndale married Florence Margery Lowson in Co Durham. They had three daughters, Joan, Anne and Susan.

 

Bill Farndale was an engineer for Power Gas Company in Stockton and then gas and chemical engineer and founder of Kohlangaz. He retired in 1982.
