His Short
Service Attestation on 1 March 1916 shows he was born in Egton and was
residing at 35 Windsor Road, Stockton on the Forest (8km northeast of York). He
was a butcher. His Descriptive
Report shows his next of kin was Hannah May Farndale of 35 Windsor Road,
Stockton who he had married on 5 December 1912. He had a daughter, Irene who
was born at Guisborough on 1 June 1913. A further
Descriptive Report referred to another dependant, Percy Carver Temple.
His Medical
Record showed that he was 5 ft 8.75 inches and 150 lbs.
1917
On 10
February 1917 he was certified after testing in “K” (supply) Company Field
Butchery in slaughtering.
His service
form shows that travelled from Southampton to Le Havre on 20 and 21 March
1917. He was transferred
to UK for release on 28 October 1919.
His Identity
Certificate on release confirms his service in France.
1919
He
was demobilised
to the Reserve on 27 November 1919. He had been attested on 1 March 1916,
transferred to the Army Reserve on 2 March 1916 and mobilised on 7 February
1917. His
will was received on 12 July 1918 and returned on 6 November 1920. In the
standard Disability
Form issued to all soldiers at discharge, he did not claim to be suffering
from any disability due to his military service. There is a receipt
document for his soldier’s documents.
