It
is the early 1930s, and Europe is holding its breath. As Hitler's grip on
power tightens, preparations are being made for the Berlin Olympics. Leni

The
Spanish Civil War The
Battle of Cable Street, London A
series of clashes that took place at several locations in the inner East End,
most notably Cable Street, on Sunday 4 October 1936 related to a march by the
British Union of Fascists. The Jarrow March
The Jarrow March too place between 5 to 31 October 1936, also known as the Jarrow Crusade. The march was an organised protest against the unemployment and poverty suffered in the English town of Jarrow during the 1930s. Around 200 men (or "Crusaders") marched from Jarrow to London, carrying a petition to the British government requesting the re-establishment of industry in the town following the closure in 1934 of its main employer, Palmer's shipyard. The petition was received by the House of Commons but not debated, and the march produced few immediate results. |
