William Farndale was born in Kilton and after marrying Ada Fawell, they moved to Gillingwood Hall, Gilling West, near Richmond, where he was a farmer. This is the story of his family.

Chronology of the Richmond Line

 

25 April 1875

William Farndale, son of Charles and Ann Farndale, was born at Kilton.

 

3 May 1899

William Farndale married Ada Fawell at Auckland.

21 June 1900

Annie Farndale, daughter of William and Ada Farndale, was born in Richmond. She died aged 71 on 26 May 1971 and is buried at St Agatha Church, Gilling.

 

By 1901

 

William Farndale was a farmer at Gillingwood Hall, Gilling, Richmond.

 

Gillingwood Hall is Grade 2 listed with mysterious follies, once part of the 18th century Hall which burnt down in 1750.

 

9 July 1902

Beatrice Farndale, daughter of William and Ada Farndale, was born in Gilling West, Richmond. Beatrice died in 1971 in the Richmond area, probably Gilling.

 

10 September 1905

Charles Farndale, son of William and Ada Farndale, was born in Gilling West, Richmond.

 

7 August 1910

 

Edith Farndale, daughter of William and Ada Farndale, was born in Richmond. She died on 25 August 1910 and is buried at St Agatha, Gilling West.

16 May 1915

 

Ada Farndale died at Gilling West aged only 38 and is buried at St Agatha, Gilling.

13 May 1916

This was probably applications to the eldest daughter, Annie, who would be 16 by then.

 

By 1921

 

Charles Farndale was assisting his father on the farm.

1938

 

Charles Farndale married Harriet Raw (born in 1914) in the Richmond area.

By 1939

 

William Farndale had retired to Saltburn by the Sea.

 

Charles Farndale was now a farmer on his own account living in the town of Richmond.

 

26 May 1940

 

Francis William Farndale, son of Charles and Harriet Farndale, was born in the Darlington area. He married Mary Silburn near Norfolk in 1962 and they had two children. He s the Fonder of the Wales 2 Line.

1943

 

George Derrick Farndale, son of Charles and Harriet Farndale, was born in the Richmond area.

6 February 1948

William Farndale died aged 72 at Gilling West. He was buried at St Agatha Church, Gilling. He was though living at Saltburn.
